    POSITION:    Mechanic: Acushnet River Valley Golf Course, Acushnet, Massachusetts

    Established in 1998 and designed by Brian Silva, Acushnet River Valley is an 18
    hole municipal golf course owned and operated by the Town of Acushnet.
    Located in Southeastern Massachusetts, the facility includes a 5,000-square foot
    turf care center, a practice range, and annual rounds of 32 to 35,000 during a 10
    month season from mid-March through mid-December.

    The mechanic reports to the golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for turf care equipment and golf cart fleet. Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course mowing and maintenance equipment including, diesel, electric, and gasoline engines and powered equipment, hydraulics and hydraulic systems, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, and other mechanical equipment used in golf course maintenance work. Sharpens all mowing equipment blades, reels, and bedknifes and is responsible for their daily inspection to ensure the highest quality of cut.  Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment. Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, equipment hours, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.

    Working knowledge of light and heavy turf maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses. Working knowledge of reel, bedknife and rotary blade sharpening and the use of reel grinding equipment. Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair. Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment. Both gasoline and diesel engines. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession. Ability to move heavy objects. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment. Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work. Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records. Knowledge of the game of golf and an understanding of how his/her job performance affects playing conditions of the golf  course. Possession of a valid driver's license.

    Salary range at $45,000 to $50,000 (negotiable and commensurate with
    experience). Medical and Dental Insurance, Life Insurance, Paid Vacation and

    Uniform provided.

    The position will remain open until filled. Starting date for this position is
    Monday, January 8, 2018.

    Golf Technician/Mechanic I
    Town of Yarmouth

    Town seeks a technician/mechanic for full-time position with the Golf Division. Responsibilities include assisting mechanic in repair and maintenance of heavy and light golf course equipment; maintenance of irrigation system components; sharpening and grinding cutting units; instructing staff in operation and care of equipment; operating equipment and performing related tasks to support Golf Division turf maintenance program.

    High School diploma or equivalency supplemented by training in automotive and turf equipment repair; experience in maintenance of golf course equipment, able to acquire a Hoisting Engineer’s License Grade 1C/2A; Class D MA driver’s license; thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics, engines, transmissions, hydraulics, pumps, valves, welding, and of reel and bed knife grinders.  Knowledge of golf course equipment preferred.
